Why is this movie Appealing?
When Disney made this movie they used a number of techniques to catch the audiences (3-10 years old) attention. They first make it seem that if you are nice to everyone, people will see you as beautiful on the outside as well as on the inside. When we look at Cinderella we see a beautiful young girl that no matter what happens to her will still look flawless, but it is very difficult to actually achieve having such a body -- also known as "the Barbie body." Another thing we see is that if you are an attractive girl in a bad situation then a handsome prince will come to your rescue. Most people around the world do not get a Prince Charming to come and save them. We need to prepare younger kids (especially girls) for the fact that not everyone gets to ride off into the sunset with the man of their dreams and that people need to make their own happy endings. One last technique this movie uses to grab our attention is to play on the wish fulfillment that any ordinary girl can become something special. If you are on a lower rung in society then you will want some hope that you can move up to a higher level. But hard work and kindness are not enough -- you need a wealthy man to get a little higher in life.
